Advocate for Seniors
DEADLINE THURSDAY, APRIL 22nd
Adult Day Health Care (ADHC) is still on the Governor's list of programs to be eliminated. An Assembly Budget Committee hearing will be held on Monday, April 26th. In advance of that, we need to let the committee members know how vital ADHC is to community-based services and why it absolutely should not be eliminated.
How You Can Help
You can help by faxing your legislator’s District
office and Capitol office this week. Letters must be faxed by
Thursday, April 22nd.
In your own words, please prepare two letters on your
letterhead, to send to the Assembly and Senate Budget Sub-Committees
and leadership of each house. You can find your legislature here: www.legislature.ca.gov.
The letters can have the same content, simply change the addressee.

The message is simple
Oppose the elimination of ADHC -
it is based on false savings.
The ADHC program helps to avoid higher costs in emergency departments, hospitals, and nursing facilities by managing many medical diseases and conditions such as cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s and dementia, and diabetes.
Key points you may include
- Eliminating Adult Day Health Care (ADHC) will cost more in dollars and in lives than it saves.
- California will lose more than $192.5 million in federal matching funds
- Increased costs are likely with increased hospitalizations, use of ERs, and placements in nursing homes
- Instead, please support legislation to amend eligibility criteria to avoid conflict with federal laws, such as the ADA and Olmstead decision, while targeting services to those most in need.
