StoryCorp Visits IOA

StoryCorps documents everyday history and the unique stories of Americans. On November 10, 2009 participants at the Center recorded their personal stories with the help of their families or caregivers.

IOA’s Alzheimer's Day Care Resource Center offers personalized, dignified care for people with mild, moderate, or severe memory loss. Founded in 1983, this was San Francisco’s first day center specifically for care of Alzheimer’s patients, and continues to be the city’s largest. Our stable, experienced staff is continuously trained and offers an exceptionally high staff to client ratio. Specialized activities encourage individual expression, engagement, mental stimulation, and physical health.

Alzheimer's Day Center + ADHC

As part of IOA’s Adult Day Health Program, all participants have access to convenient on-site healthcare, including nursing, podiatry, nutrition, physical and occupational therapy, speech therapy, and social work services.

Clients are provided with
  • Daily exercise and specialized activities
  • Structured social programming
  • Individual Plan of Care by a Multidisciplinary Team
  • Nursing supervision to monitor health
  • Medication management
  • Assistance with personal care
  • Coordinated care between physicians, families, and other care providers
  • Home-style meals made with fresh ingredients
  • Door-to-door transportation to and from the center
Family caregivers receive
  • Respite from caregiving
  • Professional advice and access to support groups and educational programs
  • Through IOA, assistance contracting in-home care and coordinating services, advance planning, counseling, and more is available
Who is eligible

The Alzheimer's Day Care Resource Center is open to adults diagnosed with all stages of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.
